Johnsmas Foy 2009 - Opening CeremonyThursday 18th June - 6.30pm

The 2009 Johnsmas Foy will be officially opened by the Convenor of Shetland Islands Council Sandy Cluness on Thursday 18th June in the Shetland Museum and Archives at Lerwick's Hay's Dock at 6.30pm.

This year the festival takes as its theme 'Shetland's Place in the Viking World'. The opening of this years festival immediately preceeds another official opening, that of one of the festivals main events, the dramatic 'Sails in St Magnus' exhibition , which will be on display in the museum and archives throughout the duration of the festival.

Two of the original artists of the 'Sails in St Magnus' - Dave Jackson and Erlend Brown - will be on hand at the opening to provide guided tours of the exhibition following its launch, while a short programme of live traditional and choral music will also be presented at this event.

The overall event will be open to the public and entry is free of charge
