Maurauding Vikings

May 30th 2009 Walhall Warriors

One of the undoubted highlights of this years Johnsmas Foy event programme will be the Walhalla Vikings - a historical re-enactment group who hail all the way from Poland.

The group will be staging these re-enactments in the authentic surroundings of the iron age village of 'Old Scatness', Dunrossness - hosted by Shetland Amenity Trust.

The performances will take place over a four-day period starting on the opening day of the Foy, 18th June, and running through till Sunday 21st June inclusive. Performance times will be 11am, 2pm and 4pm each day. The entry fee to these events is the usual entry cost for a visit to the Old Scatness site.

Inside information suggests these re-enactments are truly authentic and to quote someone who has witnessed them in action "they really go for the jugular". As such a dramatic and enthralling series of all-action performances is promised.

The Walhall Vikings will also be appearing at the Foy's 'Viking Feast' in Dunrossness Central Hall on Friday 19th June at 7.30pm. The feast will also feature a host of other Viking related entertainments including live music from visiting Norwegian and Finnish artists. Tickets for the feast can be obtained from the Old Scatness site or Shetland Amenity Trust's office at Garthspool, Lerwick. Tel (01595) 694688.
