Shetland Flag Day

Sunday 21 June

The longest day of the summer and once again this year it will be decreed Shetland Flag day - when visitors and locals alike are invited to join in the celebrations by prominently flying Shetland's very own 'national' flag. A variety of flags, car flags, stickers, pin badges and pennant style flags are available from several local outlets including the VisitShetland tourist office at the Market Cross, Lerwick.

This year the Johnsmas Foy committee are also running a photographic competition as part of the Foy and Shetland Flag day. Individuals of all ages are invited to submit photographs of the Shetland Flag being flown or displayed in an unusual location. This could include holiday destinations, famous locations worldwide or school trips - indeed from the tops of mountains to the bottom of the ocean. Photo's of Shetland Flag designs are also welcome i.e. garden designs, face / body painting – whatever – and the more unusual or original the better.
